Iran has reportedly announced to impose a security tax of $1 per barrel on the ships passing the Strait of Hormuz.

The announcement came after the ceasefire agreement, which took place between the US and Iran last night, on April 8, 2026.

Iran’s Foreign Minister (FM), Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, in his tweet, said that a safe passage will be provided to the ships passing the Strait.

He also thanked Pakistani leadership, including the Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their unwavering diplomatic efforts for making this ceasefire happen.

According to a statement issued by the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Iran has announced that if the attacks against it are stopped, the Iranian armed forces will immediately cease all their defensive operations.

At the special request of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Iran has allowed the safe passage of commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz for the next two weeks.

Iran has welcomed the US President’s decision to accept Iran’s 10-point proposal as the basis for talks, the path of which was paved by Pakistan.

The international media is calling this development the biggest diplomatic victory in Pakistan’s recent history.
