Islamabad Police chief Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi has approved the promotion of more than 100 officers and personnel to higher ranks ahead of completing his tenure.
On Saturday, the federal government transferred BS-20 officer Rizvi from his post as inspector general of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police and appointed him director general of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). The government appointed Captain (retd) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry as the new capital police chief.
The notification said the transfer and appointment had been made with the approval of the federal government under Section 29(3) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, as amended by the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Act, 2025, and Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973. The order takes “immediate effect and until further orders”.
The Islamabad Police spokesperson said 12 Sub-Inspectors have been promoted to Inspectors, while nine Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) have been elevated to Sub-Inspectors.
In addition, almost 100 head constables have been promoted to Assistant Sub-Inspectors.
According to police, formal notifications for the promotions have been issued following an assessment of merit, performance, and service records.
Rizvi congratulated the newly promoted officials and personally placed the new ranks on some of them. He said Islamabad Police would continue to focus on merit and transparency when making promotions.
