Govt to pay fees for students from 9th to 12th grade

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Elementary and Secondary Education Department has proposed that the government pay exam fees for students from 9th to 12th grade in public schools, according to media reports on Friday.

According to the details, the proposal has been sent to the Chief Minister for approval.

Sources say that millions of students across the province will benefit from this move.

It will add an estimated Rs3.4 billion to the provincial government’s annual expenditure. But the students and their parents will be fully relieved from paying exam fees.

Under the current system, each student from 9th to 12th grade pays around Rs2,500 per exam to their respective education board.

If this proposal gets approved, the government will pay these fees directly. And then the students will not have to pay.

Officials said the government will pay the fee for each student only once.

However, if a student fails an exam in 9th grade, they will have to pay the fee themselves for retaking it.

But, if a student passes one time, the government will continue to cover exam fees from 10th to 12th grade.
