A breakthrough has emerged in the investigation into the death of Karachi businessman Mir Raza Ali, as police have obtained fresh CCTV footage that may help reconstruct his final movements before the incident.
According to investigators, the newly recovered surveillance video shows Mir Raza Ali walking alone moments before the incident. In the footage, he is seen taking a glowing object from his pocket and throwing it away before continuing on foot. Police believe the object is likely to be his mobile phone, though forensic experts are still verifying its identity.
Investigators said a citizen later discovered a mobile phone at the same location where the object was seen being discarded in the CCTV footage and informed police. The device has since been recovered, and authorities have collected additional forensic evidence from the area.
Police have also secured more CCTV recordings tracing Mir Raza Ali’s movements from different locations. Officials said forensic and technical experts are examining the footage to establish a detailed timeline and determine whether anyone came into contact with him before his death.
Authorities are comparing the surveillance footage with digital evidence, witness statements and forensic findings as they work to connect all pieces of evidence in the high-profile case.
Earlier, investigators revealed that Mir Raza Ali had suffered heavy financial losses in a digital currency business and had reportedly received investments from several individuals. Police are questioning people linked to those financial dealings to determine whether the losses had any connection to his death.
Investigators also disclosed that Mir Raza Ali allegedly faced losses worth millions of rupees in cryptocurrency investments and had sought financial assistance from an investor after experiencing difficulties. His fiancée also told police that he had become deeply focused on his Bitcoin investments.
Police are currently attempting to unlock Mir Raza Ali’s mobile phone, hoping it will provide crucial digital evidence. Investigators have confirmed that data on the device had been deleted before the incident, and forensic experts are working to recover any missing information.
The investigation further revealed that the missing weapon belonging to Mir Raza Ali was a .30-bore pistol, while the bullet recovered from the scene was of the same calibre. However, investigators have not found the pistol or any spent bullet casing, complicating efforts to determine exactly what happened.
While some evidence has prompted investigators to examine the possibility of suicide, police officials stressed that no final conclusion has been reached. Authorities said several unanswered questions remain, including the missing firearm, the absence of gunshot residue on the victim’s hands, and the reason he travelled to the location where his body was found.
Police say the investigation remains active, with forensic, technical and financial evidence continuing to be analysed before any definitive findings are announced.
