The scenic Saif-ul-Muluk Lake is once again welcoming visitors after the district administration in Mansehra officially reopened the road leading to the popular tourist destination.
According to an official notification, tourists can now travel on the route daily from 9:00am to 4:00pm, allowing visitors to return to one of Pakistan’s most iconic mountain lakes.
The road had remained closed for the past week due to adverse weather conditions. Authorities said the temporary closure was imposed to ensure the safety of tourists travelling along the high-altitude route.
Officials, however, have cautioned that access to the lake may be suspended again if weather conditions worsen. The Assistant Commissioner of Balakot has been authorised to close the road whenever public safety is at risk.
The district administration said any future decision regarding the road’s closure will be based on weather forecasts and travel advisories issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
Earlier, the district administration closed the road leading to Lake Saif-ul-Muluk to all types of traffic until further notice as a precautionary measure following heavy rainfall and cloudburst alerts issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
According to an official statement, intermittent rainfall continues across Balakot, Kaghan Valley, Naran, Lake Saif-ul-Muluk, and surrounding areas. The road closure was ordered to ensure the safety of tourists due to the risk of torrential rain and possible cloudbursts.
The district administration said the Saif-ul-Muluk Road will remain closed to all traffic until conditions improve.
Heavy rainfall caused a stream along the Saif-ul-Muluk Road to overflow, blocking the route. Machinery from the Kaghan Development Authority later cleared the road and safely evacuated tourists who had been stranded in the area.

Saif-ul-Maluk Lake is located in the Mansehra District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, approximately 8 to 9 kilometers north of Naran town. At an impressive elevation of 3,224 meters (10,578 feet), it is among Pakistan’s highest lakes.
