Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced plans to transform Islamabad Expressway into a modern motorway-style highway as part of efforts to improve traffic flow and upgrade the capital’s infrastructure.
The project includes the construction of a nearly 9-kilometre service road, along with modern flyovers at key locations, including Faisal Mosque and Kashmir Chowk.
The service road will also be widened, while the traffic management system will be upgraded to modern standards to provide motorists with smoother and faster travel.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry visited the Safe City Headquarters, where a special meeting chaired by Naqvi reviewed progress on the Safe City expansion project.
Naqvi directed that the Safe City expansion project be completed by September 30.
Officials briefed the meeting that 85 per cent of the project has been completed, with 85 per cent of the new cameras installed and 415 kilometres of optical fibre laid.
Work on the data centre, cyber architecture and cybersecurity has also reached 80 per cent completion.
Naqvi directed officials to finalise the Safe City Bill and present it before the National Assembly at the earliest.
The interior minister said the government is committed to transforming Islamabad Safe City into a modern, smart and world-class institution on the model of developed countries.
He said the technology-driven Safe City system would ensure the protection of citizens, effective surveillance and a rapid response to incidents.
