Pakistanis bought almost 20,000 cars in July: PAMA data

Pakistan’s car market continued its recovery in July, with sales jumping sharply from a year earlier despite a monthly slowdown, industry data showed.

Sales of cars, light commercial vehicles, vans and jeeps reached 19,818 units during the month, according to the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA). That was 79.6 percent higher than the 11,034 units sold in July 2025.

The latest figures point to a stronger auto market compared with last year. However, demand eased from June, when sales stood at 22,741 units, marking a 12.9 percent monthly decline.

The growth also extends the gains seen across the full financial year. Combined sales of cars, LCVs, vans and jeeps rose 39.4 percent in FY26 to 206,436 units, compared with 148,042 units in FY25.

Passenger cars remained the main driver of the market in July, accounting for 17,216 units. The remaining 2,602 units came from jeeps and pickups.

Smaller cars continued to attract strong demand. Vehicles with engines below 1,000cc recorded 7,710 sales, with Suzuki Alto alone accounting for 7,217 units. Suzuki Every made up the rest with 493 units.

The larger 1,300cc and above segment was even bigger, posting 9,066 units. Toyota models, including Corolla, Yaris and Corolla Cross, led the group with 4,283 units. Honda’s Civic and City followed with 2,529 units, while Suzuki Swift recorded 2,018 units.

Hyundai sold 211 Elantras and 25 Sonatas in the same segment.

Sales in the 1,000cc class remained limited at 392 units, all of which came from the Suzuki Cultus. The discontinued WagonR had no sales during the month.

The newly introduced Suzuki Fronx, however, did not record a sale in July.

Electric vehicle sales, meanwhile, doubled from a year earlier. Dewan Honri-Ve sold 48 units in July, compared with 24 units in the same month of 2025.

Toyota also topped the jeep and pickup market with 806 units through its Fortuner and IMV models. Haval and Tank followed with 663 units, while JAC pickups sold by Ghandhara reached 357 units.

Hyundai Porter posted 286 sales, followed by Tucson at 171. Jetour, Honda’s BR-V and HR-V, Isuzu D-Max, Hyundai Santa Fe and Dewan Kia Shehzore recorded 133, 111, 44, 17 and 14 units, respectively.
