The Sindh government will formally launch the Facial Recognition Attendance Monitoring and Evaluation System (FRAMES) in government schools across six districts August 17 onwards.

The Sindh School Education Department has completed preparations for the launch. One district from each division has been selected for the starting phase. In the first phase, staff attendance will be tracked through facial recognition technology via a digital mobile application.

Cities included in the first phase

  • Karachi East
  • Hyderabad
  • Naushahro Feroze
  • Jacobabad
  • Ghotki
  • Umerkot

Provincial Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah said the initiative is being launched as a start in six districts, with plans to extend it to all districts of Sindh following a successful trial. He said the application has been designed to be user-friendly, and a mechanism has been put in place to monitor, identify and resolve technical issues.

Sardar Ali Shah added that the system is not just an attendance tool but deals with effectively ensuring students’ right to have teachers available at school. In the initial phase, attendance of 49,565 teaching and non-teaching staff across the six districts will be monitored through this initiative.

Teachers will not need to own a personal mobile phone to mark attendance, as they can easily do it through others device as well. Attendance can also be recorded without internet access, with records updating automatically once connectivity is restored. Both entry and exit markings will be mandatory for each school day.

Moreover, teachers will be able to view their own attendance records and download them at month’s end through the app. In case of leave, they will be able to apply through the app from home without visiting the office, with approval granted online.

The application will be available on both iOS and Android platforms.
