Former Test cricketer Basit Ali suffers heart attack

Former Pakistan Test cricketer Basit Ali has reportedly suffered a heart attack and is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Karachi. The 55-year-old former batsman experienced chest pain before being taken to the hospital, where doctors performed an angioplasty.

The sources revealed that former Test cricketer Basit Ali was rushed to a hospital in Karachi after experiencing chest pain and discomfort, where he received emergency medical treatment. Medical examinations later confirmed that the former batsman had suffered a heart attack.

Doctors immediately performed an angioplasty to stabilise his condition and prevent further complications. The medical team completed the procedure, and Basit is now reported to be in stable condition. According to reports, Basit Ali will remain under medical observation for the next two days. If his condition continues to improve, doctors are expected to discharge him from the hospital.

It is worth mentioning here that Basit Ali made his international debut for Pakistan in a Test against the West Indies in Port of Spain in April 1993. The right-handed middle-order batter quickly became known for his aggressive stroke play and went on to represent Pakistan in 19 Tests and 50 ODIs before falling out of favour with the national selectors in 1996.

In Test cricket, Basit scored 858 runs at an average of 26.81. His final Test appearance came against New Zealand in Christchurch, where he managed just five runs, including a duck. Basit enjoyed greater success in the ODI format. He made his debut against the West Indies in Kingston and played 43 innings, accumulating 1,265 runs at an average of 34.18 and a strike rate of 75.79. During his ODI career in the 1990s, he scored one century and nine half-centuries.
