The Supreme Court’s verdict has dampened the enthusiasm of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest, after the court directed Imran Khan, the party’s founder, to be immediately shifted to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment.
Imran Khan is to be shifted to the hospital for a medical check-up and treatment today after the Supreme Court instructed so.
He will be accompanied by doctors Faisal Sultan and Uzma Khan and they will be involved in his medical treatment.
The court has also ordered Imran Khan to finance the bill for his hospital treatment.
The court has asked Imran Khan to stay at the hospital till the next hearing of the case.
The court also stated that his health should not be politicised or used as a political tool.
Justice Afghan told the PTI to take care of the issue internally and warned the party against politicising Imran Khan’s health.
The long march and protest by PTI supporters and leaders towards Islamabad on September 27 was mainly due to Imran Khan’s health, as the party had been organising the event.
Sohail Afridi and other PTI leaders had been encouraging demonstrations to be held in response to the event, but critics have alleged that they had been exploiting the issue for confrontation and political instability.
The Supreme Court’s directive, however, has seen the central issue of the medical treatment of Imran Khan resolved.
The development is thus being seen as a blow to PTI’s protest narrative.
The Supreme Court has, in essence, squandered the PTI protest momentum.
