Swabi rain weather: Flood water enters houses

Torrential rain triggered flooding in several areas of Swabi, with floodwater entering homes and disrupting traffic at several locations.

According to local sources, heavy rainfall caused streams and waterways to overflow, creating a flood-like situation in Mansab Dar, Dobian, Yar Hussain, Qamargi, Lande Cham and Dhanduqa. Floodwater entered several houses in the affected areas.

Rescue 1122 teams reached the affected areas after receiving reports of flooding and launched relief operations. Rescue officials safely evacuated several people, including women, from their homes and shifted them to safer locations.

Flooding was also reported along Mardan Road in the Mansab Dar area, while floodwater and several feet of water accumulated at Jahangira Road, Khanda Mor and Anbar, disrupting traffic.

The heavy rain also caused significant damage to a private flour mill in Mansab Dar. Floodwater entered the facility, damaging a large quantity of flour stored inside.

Rescue 1122 said all relevant teams had been placed on high alert due to the heavy rain and flooding, while the situation was being continuously monitored.

Landslide Hits School in Swabi

Meanwhile, three children were injured when a landslide struck a government boys’ primary school in the Ghani Kot area of the mountainous Gadoon Amazai region.

Residents said the landslide damaged the school building while the morning assembly was underway. Around 90 per cent of the students were reportedly outside their classrooms at the time, preventing a major tragedy.

The injured children were shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, residents of Ghani Kot and members of the Parent-Teacher Council informed the education department and deputy commissioner about the situation. Officials subsequently ordered the closure of the school amid fears of further landslides due to continued rainfall.

Members of the Parent-Teacher Council said this was the second landslide to hit the same school this year. They called on authorities to remove the debris and conduct a safety inspection of the school building to prevent any further loss of life.

Meanwhile, the body of Awais, who drowned in the Indus River on Independence Day, was recovered on Wednesday. The deceased, a resident of Charsadda, was among six people who drowned in the river. Four bodies have been recovered so far, while another youngster from Mardan remains missing.
