The child star who appeared in the famous Baby Shark Dance video has returned to the spotlight as a K-pop singer. Park Geonroung released his first digital single on Thursday (today), nearly 10 years after becoming known around the world through the viral children’s song.
Park was only seven years old when he appeared in the Baby Shark Dance video. He is now beginning his solo K-pop career under the stage name Baby Shark Boy. His new musical journey is being supported by Pinkfong Company, the company that owns the copyright to Baby Shark.
Park said he remains thankful that people still remember him from the video after a decade. He explained that Baby Shark Dance video brought happiness to people around the world. This encouraged him to reconnect with audiences through music.
The original Baby Shark song was released in 2016. Its simple lyrics, memorable tune and dance helped it become a globally known. The video has now recorded more than 17.2 billion views, making it the most-watched video in YouTube history.
Moreover, it has been played at the White House and has received attention from prominent figures, including US President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Park remained connected with Pinkfong after his original appearance and went on to feature in other shows produced by the company.
His debut digital single is titled WAVE. According to Park, the track begins with the familiar melody associated with Baby Shark song. Park hopes to continue making music while also exploring different forms of content.
The former child star is now trying to build a new identity with his K-Pop debut as an artist.
