The federal government has launched a modern digital proof-of-life system, allowing more than 3.2 million pensioners to complete biometric and facial verification from home free of charge through the Pak ID app. The new facility eliminates the need for pensioners to visit banks for verification, providing greater convenience, particularly for elderly and disabled citizens.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the new digital system, saying the biometric and facial verification facility would provide significant relief to elderly and disabled pensioners. Millions of pensioners are expected to benefit from the new system and mobile application, eliminating the need to visit banks for verification.
The prime minister described the initiative as a major public service and said NADRA had provided the modern pension application and verification system free of charge. He congratulated Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, NADRA Chairman and the Finance Secretary for launching the initiative. Shehbaz Sharif said the new system would make the verification process much easier for elderly and disabled pensioners and put an end to repeated visits to banks.
Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said the country’s digital transformation was progressing under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, with NADRA playing a key role. He added that the use of modern technology in the pension system would improve transparency and make services more accessible to pensioners.
The finance minister said several government services have been digitised to make them more accessible and convenient for the public, highlighting the facilities offered through NADRA’s PakID mobile application.
Muhammad Aurangzeb said pensioners often face difficulties because they are required to visit banks every six months for verification, particularly when their fingerprints cannot be authenticated. He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had directed the relevant ministries to develop a solution to the biometric verification problems faced by pensioners.
The finance minister added that all banks would be informed about the new system and instructed not to suspend pension payments solely because a pensioner’s fingerprints could not be verified.
