The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court over the alleged non-implementation of the court’s order regarding the transfer of party founder Imran Khan to a hospital.
PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja and lawyer Uzair Bhandari filed the petition on behalf of the party, seeking contempt proceedings against those allegedly responsible for violating the court’s order.
The petition requested the Supreme Court to issue show-cause notices to the respondents and direct them to appear personally before the court.
PTI also asked the court to declare the respondents guilty of contempt and punish them in accordance with the law.
The party further sought the immediate transfer of Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a medical examination.
It also requested the Supreme Court to appoint a judicial officer or constitute a local commission to monitor and ensure implementation of its order.
Earlier, the Chief Commissioner Islamabad refiled a miscellaneous review petition in the Supreme Court against its August 18 order regarding the transfer of PTI founder Imran Khan to a hospital.
According to sources, the fresh petition was filed after addressing the objections raised by the Registrar’s Office.
The petition contends that the court’s decision directing Imran Khan’s transfer to a hospital contains legal flaws and that the relevant prison rules were overlooked while issuing the order.
It further states that the Chief Commissioner Islamabad was not made a party to the main case.
The petitioner has requested the Supreme Court to allow the miscellaneous application, permit the filing of the review petition, and reconsider its August 18 decision regarding Imran Khan’s hospital transfer.
On Thursday Supreme Court had returned a review petition filed by the Islamabad Chief Commissioner against the proposed transfer of PTI founder Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital.
The petition was returned after the Supreme Court Registrar’s Office raised objections to it. The objections were raised over the review petition’s incomplete paper books.
The Registrar’s Office had raised the objections to the petition a day earlier, citing the failure to submit complete paper books along with the review petition.
The review petition was filed by Chief Commissioner Islamabad on Wednesday.
