Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered financial assistance for families affected by recent monsoon rains and floods across Pakistan.

The prime minister issued the directions while chairing a meeting to review the impact of the 2026 monsoon rains, flood damage and ongoing relief operations across the country.

PM Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to provide financial assistance to the families of all people who died in the floods. He also ordered compensation for people whose houses were either completely destroyed or damaged by heavy rains and flooding.

Relief and rehabilitation measures

The prime minister issued several directions for the relief and recovery efforts

  • Electricity transmission systems damaged by floods and rains to be restored as quickly as possible
  • Damaged roads in affected areas to be repaired
  • Relevant federal ministers and secretaries to personally visit affected areas to assess the damage
  • Rehabilitation work to begin without unnecessary delays
  • Food and other essential supplies to immediately reach areas where access problems have delayed assistance
  • Disaster management authorities to remain prepared for possible further rains and flooding

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and provincial disaster management authorities were specifically directed to maintain full readiness for any further emergencies.

Officials briefed the prime minister about the effects of the 2026 monsoon and relief activities being carried out by provincial authorities and the NDMA, during the meeting.

According to the briefing, people affected by flooding in different parts of the country were moved to safer locations in a timely manner.

Moreover, around 615 tonnes of relief supplies have been dispatched to monsoon-affected areas across Pakistan. Authorities are also working to send additional supplies.

The meeting was informed that infrastructure rehabilitation is progressing rapidly in affected areas of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials also highlighted the role of early warning systems in northern areas. These systems helped authorities identify flood risks in advance and move several residents to safer locations before flooding occurred.
