The Pakistan-backed panel secured a clean sweep in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) elections, winning all three seats on the ACC Board of Directors. The elections were held during the ACC Annual General Meeting in Bangkok, where the Pakistan-backed and India-backed panels faced off in a closely contested race.
According to media reports, the Pakistan-backed candidates emerged victorious, while the India-backed panel suffered defeat. The Pakistan-backed panel, led by ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, included representatives from Qatar, Singapore and the Maldives, all of whom were elected to the board. It is the first time since the establishment of the ACC that a Pakistan-backed panel has won all three available seats. India was represented at the meeting by Rajiv Shukla.
The achievement is being described as a major success for ACC President Mohsin Naqvi and a significant indication of Pakistan’s growing influence within the Asian Cricket Council. Apart from the elections, several other important matters were discussed during the Annual General Meeting.
Preparations for next year’s Asia Cup in Bangladesh were reviewed, with three venues Sylhet, Mirpur and Chittagong- proposed to host the tournament. The ACC’s annual budget was also discussed. The meeting also reviewed preparations and arrangements for the Women’s Asia Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Dubai.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board has been included among the eligible cricket boards for the presidency of the ACC. According to the announcement issued following the ACC’s annual meeting in Bangkok, several important administrative matters were discussed, and decisions were taken during the meeting. The establishment of several new committees within the ACC was also approved.
These committees will oversee governance, administrative affairs, cricket development, competitions, and financial matters. During the meeting, UAE Cricket Board Vice President Khalid Al Zarooni was elected as the Vice President of the ACC. Al Zarooni was unanimously elected to the position. The ACC also elected members of its Executive Board for the 2026–2028 term.
