The Punjab government has imposed a one-month ban on eight stage actresses over allegations of inappropriate dancing and gestures during theatre performances.
According to a notification issued by the Punjab Information and Culture Department, the actresses have been barred from performing in theatres for one month.
The notification names Mahi Rajput, Hina Sheikh, Malaika Shehzadi, Madiha Khan, Mehak Noor, Mano Multani, Raima Mehr and Hasna Jutt among those affected by the order.
The department said the action was taken over allegations of “obscene dancing and inappropriate gestures” during stage performances.
The notification directs relevant authorities to ensure that the ban is strictly enforced and that the eight actresses do not perform at theatres during the one-month period.
The action comes amid continued government efforts to regulate stage performances in Punjab and address complaints about content considered inappropriate for theatrical productions.
The department has not, according to the information provided in the notification, announced further details about the specific performances that led to the bans.
The actresses will remain prohibited from theatre performances for one month under the order issued by the Punjab Information and Culture Department.
