The Interior Minister of Pakistan, Mohsin Naqvi, said that the Iran visit was focused on the US-Iran war and the talks with the Iranian leadership were fruitful.
In his tweet, he said, “Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and I had a very positive and productive meeting with the President of Iran. Our discussion focused on the Iran-US conflict, tensions in the Middle East and the way forward, as well as the steps needed by both sides for restoration of the Islamabad MoU, thereby leading to comprehensive settlement of the conflict.”
He added that the Iranian President candidly shared his Government’s perspective and concerns, and we had a very constructive exchange on the issues involved. Significant progress was made, and the meeting concluded on a highly positive note. We remain hopeful that this momentum will help pave the way for further progress and lasting peace in the region.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, was also present with the Interior Minister at this important and crucial visit to Iran.
According to the press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan has stepped up its diplomatic efforts to help ease the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran.
Field Marshal Munir travelled to Iran with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi as part of Pakistan’s efforts to find a path towards de-escalation and lasting peace in the region.
During the visit, Field Marshal Munir held meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Supreme Leader’s representative to the Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei, parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
The discussions focused on preventing further escalation, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and finding ways to bring the conflict to an immediate end, according to ISPR.
The two sides also discussed diplomatic efforts to resolve regional disputes through dialogue and negotiations.
Iranian officials praised Pakistan’s constructive role and sincere efforts to facilitate dialogue, reduce tensions and support a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
The visit comes as concerns grow over the wider regional impact of the US-Iran confrontation, particularly the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy shipments.
Pakistan has sought to position itself as a diplomatic bridge in efforts to reduce tensions and prevent the conflict from spreading further across the region.
Field Marshal Munir was received in Iran by Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and other senior Iranian civilian and military officials.
The visit is being seen as part of Islamabad’s broader diplomatic efforts to encourage de-escalation and a negotiated solution to the crisis.
