Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik held separate meetings with the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) and Pakistan State Oil (PSO) in Karachi.
The meetings focused on Pakistan’s petroleum sector. They covered energy security, investment opportunities, reforms and improvements in the fuel supply system.
Meeting with OICCI
During his visit to OICCI, the minister met the chamber’s senior officials and representatives of foreign investors. Industry stakeholders and media representatives also attended the meeting.
Ali Pervaiz Malik spoke about the government’s plans to improve the petroleum sector. He said efforts are being made to increase exploration and improve the country’s refining facilities.
He also highlighted steps being taken to improve energy security. These include bonded storage and plans for strategic petroleum reserves.
The minister said the government wants to make the petroleum sector more competitive and attractive for investors. He added that reforms are being carried out in exploration, refining and fuel markets.
The government is also working with industry stakeholders to solve problems faced by businesses and create better conditions for local and foreign investment.
OICCI members also shared their views during the meeting. They said stable policies and a clear tax system are important for attracting investors. They also stressed the need for transparency and better security.
OICCI President Yousaf Hussain welcomed the minister’s engagement with the business community.
He said regular discussions between the government and industry can help solve important issues and support investment.
OICCI said it would continue working with the government and other stakeholders on policies that can support investment and energy security.
Meeting with PSO
The petroleum minister later visited PSO House in Karachi. He held a meeting with the company’s management.
The meeting focused on national energy security and the country’s fuel supply system. Officials also discussed strategic storage and ways to make the supply chain stronger.
Digital technology and its role in improving the petroleum sector were also discussed.
