A report presented before Parliament has revealed details of fuel consumption by official vehicles used by the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) over the past five years.
According to the report, BISP has 75 official vehicles operating at its headquarters and regional offices across Pakistan. These vehicles reportedly consumed more than 810,000 litres of fuel during the five-year period.
Where are BISP’s 75 vehicles being used?
- 28 official vehicles are in use at BISP headquarters
- 12 vehicles are being used in Punjab
- 17 vehicles are used in Sindh
- 7 vehicles are used in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
- 6 vehicles are operating in Balochistan
- 5 vehicles are being used in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan
Fuel consumption report of 5 years
Vehicles operating in the Islamabad region reportedly consumed 402,400 litres of fuel.
Meanwhile, vehicles in the Punjab region used 100,788 litres.
Vehicles in the Sindh region consumed 1,828,850 litres of fuel during the same period.
However, overall 810,000 litres of consumption was reported.
Fuel expenses run into millions of rupees
The cost of this fuel amounts to millions of rupees, according to the report presented in Parliament.
BISP is one of Pakistan’s major social protection programmes and provides financial assistance to eligible low-income households across the country. Its operations require a presence in different provinces and regions.
BISP issued important instructions for Benazir SIMs
On the other hand, previously, the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) had issued important instructions for registered women about Benazir SIMs and digital wallets.
BISP had advised beneficiaries to collect their SIMs only from designated BISP offices.
BISP had warned beneficiaries against trusting unverified claims about the SIM distribution process.
The programme had advised women to get information only from official BISP sources.
