The twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have received heavy rainfall in the past few days. Due to the heavy rain and traffic disruptions on major roads, the Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi announced a one-day holiday for all educational institutions on September 1, 2026.
However, another holiday has not been announced for Rawalpindi or Islamabad as of now.
Several low-lying areas have been flooded. The water level in Nullah Lai has also risen to a dangerous level. The decision was taken to protect students as the weather has become harsh.
Will there be a holiday tomorrow?
The weather department has forecast more rain in the region. This has raised questions among parents and students about whether schools and colleges will remain closed on September 2.
However, the Rawalpindi district administration has not announced another holiday so far. Therefore, educational institutions are expected to open as usual unless a new notification is issued.
Rainfall in the twin cities
According to the weather department, Shamsabad received the highest rainfall at 201 millimetres.
New Katarian recorded 186mm. Golra received 157mm. H-8 recorded 155mm while Saidpur received 104mm.
The heavy rain also caused the water level in Nullah Lai to rise. The level reached 29 feet at Katarian and 23.5 feet at Gawalmandi. Authorities then started evacuating people from nearby areas.
September 2 is also important for students
September 2 is also an important date for students across Punjab. All nine educational boards in the province are scheduled to announce the 2026 annual examination results for Class 9 on the same day.
For now, students and parents should wait for an official notification from the district administration regarding any further holiday.
Balochistan ends Friday holiday
The Balochistan government has decided to make Friday a working day in all government offices across the province, according to reports on Monday.
This means that the government offices will now remain open on Fridays. Officials will perform their regular duties and deal with public matters as usual.
