Details of driving licence fees for cars and motorcycles in Punjab have been released as traffic police intensify a crackdown on motorists driving without valid licences across the province.
Traffic police said having a valid driving licence is mandatory for driving a car or motorcycle under the law. Legal action is being taken against those found violating the requirement.
The Punjab government has simplified the process of obtaining a driving licence to facilitate citizens.
Applicants must first obtain a learner’s permit. After completing the required period, they have to appear for both a theoretical and practical driving test at a designated driving licence centre.
Applicants who pass the tests can obtain a permanent driving licence after paying the prescribed fee.
Car driving licence fee
For September 2026, the total fee for a one-year car driving licence is Rs1,980.
The fee includes:
- Test fee: Rs150
- Post-test licence fee: Rs1,350
- Courier charges: Rs480
Motorcycle driving licence fee
The total fee for a one-year motorcycle driving licence is Rs980.
The charges include:
- Test fee: Rs50
- Post-test licence fee: Rs450
- Courier charges: Rs480
