CCD Sub-Inspector Adnan Ghayur martyred in Rawalpindi

Crime Control Department (CCD) Sub-Inspector Adnan Ghayur was martyred during an operation against a wanted robbery suspect in Rawalpindi on Wednesday (today), September 2, 2026.

According to police, the incident took place within the limits of Chaklala Police Station. Adnan Ghayur was pursuing a suspect wanted in robbery cases when the encounter occurred. 

Police said the pursuit reached Q Heights in Safari Phase One. The suspect allegedly opened fire when the officer attempted to apprehend him.

Sub-Inspector Adnan Ghayur was struck by a bullet in the head during the exchange of fire. He succumbed to his injuries. Police reached the scene after receiving information about the incident. 

CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced which shows the officer confronting the alleged robber during the operation.

Punjab Police later identified the wanted suspect as Umar alias Cheena. A police spokesperson said the suspect allegedly fired directly at Adnan Ghayur while trying to avoid arrest.

IG Punjab orders immediate arrest

Inspector General of Punjab Police Abdul Karim paid tribute to the martyred sub-inspector for sacrificing his life while performing his duty.

The IG Punjab directed police teams to arrest the suspect involved in the shooting immediately. He also said that looking after the family and welfare of the martyred officer would remain a priority for Punjab Police. 

The incident has caused grief among the officer’s family, colleagues and members of the police department.

Police have launched further proceedings following the shooting. The circumstances surrounding the encounter and the events leading to the officer’s death are being investigated.
