The body of mountaineer Dr Asma Mushtaq, who died while attempting the 7,027-metre-high Spantik Peak, has been safely brought to the Spantik Base Camp.
The Arandu Volunteer Rescue Team transported the body from Camp Three to the base camp, Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar said in a post on X.

According to Shigar Deputy Commissioner Sher Afzal, Dr Asma Mushtaq died at Camp Three on August 21 after falling ill. Her body had become buried under snow, creating difficulties in locating and transporting it.
During the search operation, local volunteer mountaineers recovered the body and moved it down from Camp Three to the Spantik Base Camp.
Tarar said the body will soon be airlifted from Spantik Base Camp to Skardu. From Skardu, it will then be transported to Lahore, subject to the availability of a suitable flight.
The administration said the helicopter evacuation will take place once weather and flight conditions become favourable. Further updates will be shared as arrangements progress.
