The Punjab government will start accepting applications for its E-Bike Scheme 2026 from Friday, September 4, offering students an affordable way to purchase electric bikes through easy monthly instalments.
The initiative aims to improve transportation facilities for young students and make daily commuting more convenient and affordable. Under the scheme, eligible students will be able to obtain electric bikes through an instalment-based payment plan.
A day earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz abolished the down payment requirement for students seeking to obtain an e-bike. The government also rejected recommendations to impose additional charges on students on top of their monthly instalments.
Under the scheme, students will be able to purchase e-bikes through interest-free monthly instalments of Rs 3,000. The provincial government will cover the interest and insurance costs associated with the bikes. The scheme is initially being launched for students, with plans to provide more than 125,000 electric bikes. The Punjab government has also approved the gradual expansion of the scheme to include government employees, members of the general public and delivery workers.

Students interested in applying for the Punjab E-Bike Scheme can submit their applications online through the official portal of the Punjab government. The scheme will also cover government employees, departments and delivery workers. Students will receive helmets and safety rods free of charge, while the bikes will feature lithium iron phosphate batteries.
