Armed members of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) opened indiscriminate fire at security personnel in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), resulting in the martyrdom of an FC personnel and injuries to a Rangers official.
According to the AJK Police spokesperson, armed attackers targeted the Kuprah police check post on Chhattra Topi Road in Bagh district and also opened fire near the Tarar Khel access point.
An FC personnel, identified as Rahim Gul, was martyred in the attack, while a Pakistan Rangers official sustained injuries, the police spokesperson said.
Security personnel responded effectively to the attack and demonstrated courage and professional skills while returning fire, according to the AJK Police.
During the retaliatory action, one attacker was killed at the scene.
Police said two hand grenades, one Kalashnikov, three magazines along with ammunition, and a dagger were recovered from the deceased attacker.
Law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to locate the other attackers who fled the scene.
The AJK Police spokesperson said strict legal action would be taken against elements involved in violence, without discrimination.
The spokesperson further said no leniency would be shown towards those attacking security forces or civilians, stressing that strict action would be taken against violent elements to maintain peace and uphold the rule of law in the region.
