A rare falcon has been sold for a record price at the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition. According to international media reports, a rare white falcon of the Ultra White Purebred Garmosha breed was auctioned for AED 1.5 million, making it the most expensive falcon sold at the exhibition this year.
The falcon was bred at Mark Moglich Farm in the United States. It weighs approximately 1,000 grams and measures 16.5 inches in length and width. Its striking white wings and distinctive physical characteristics have made it a highly prized and rare specimen. A total of 55 renowned local and international falcon-breeding farms are participating in this year’s exhibition.
Both birds were bred in the United States by Mark Moglich Farm, a specialist facility known for producing high-end raptors, including snow-white Arctic gyrfalcons, peregrine falcons, gyr-peregrine hybrids and Russian Siberian goshawks.
A rare gyrfalcon has fetched Dh1.5 million at the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (Adihex), highlighting the high demand for prized birds of prey in the region. According to Adihex, another falcon sold for Dh1.1 million weighed 1.46kg, measured 47cm in length and had a wingspan of 47cm.
Gyrfalcons are among the most sought-after birds of prey because of their rarity and exceptional hunting abilities. Their impressive physical characteristics make them highly valued in both auctions and private sales. Beyond their hunting capabilities, gyrfalcons hold significant cultural importance in the Middle East, where prized falcons are traditionally regarded as symbols of prestige and status. Renowned for their speed, precision, size and remarkable ability to withstand high temperatures, gyrfalcons are considered among the most exceptional hunting birds in the world.
