At least five people were killed and several others injured after a passenger coach overturned in Kandhkot, in interior Sindh.
According to rescue officials, the accident took place near Saifal and was reportedly caused by overspeeding. The driver lost control of the coach, resulting in the vehicle overturning and killing five people at the scene.
Police arrived at the site after being alerted to the incident and said the coach was transporting members of a Tablighi Jamaat from Thul to Lahore.
Rescue teams shifted the bodies of the deceased and the injured to nearby hospitals. Officials said the identities of those killed had not yet been confirmed.
Rescue officials added that darkness was hampering the emergency operation. Emergency measures were also implemented at the relevant hospitals to deal with the casualties.
In a separate incident, wedding celebrations turned into mourning in Punjab’s Rahim Yar Khan district when a tractor-trolley carrying wedding guests collided with a trailer, leaving seven people dead and more than 60 injured.
According to details, the tragic accident occurred near Sardar Garh in Zahir Pir. At least seven people have been killed while more than 60 others sustained injuries.
According to a spokesperson for Sheikh Zayed Hospital, three of the injured succumbed to their wounds while receiving treatment. The remaining injured are still being provided medical care at the hospital.
The deputy commissioner said an emergency was declared at Sheikh Zayed Hospital following the accident, and instructions were issued to ensure the provision of the best possible medical treatment to the injured.
The deputy commissioner also met with the affected families and visited the injured, expressing grief over the loss of precious human lives.
According to rescue officials and the district administration, initial reports suggest that the accident occurred due to negligence and carelessness on the part of the trailer driver. Further investigations into the incident are underway.
