Police said the shooting occurred on McCallum Road the night of Sept. 5 and is under investigation.
Around seven bullets were reportedly fired at a luxury vehicle that accompanied the convoy. Some reports indicated Ammy Virk might have been in the target vehicle during the attack, as well as the show’s promoter. But there were no injuries reported.
The attack reportedly occurred around 11 PM.
Before he left with his convoy, Ammy Virk had reportedly been performing at Rogers Forum Hall in Abbotsford. Around 11 PM, attackers in a dark colored vehicle allegedly opened fire on one of the vehicles on McCallum Road.
Initial reports indicate that the shooters ran away after the shooting. The car that was targeted was stated to be bulletproof, which meant that it was able to withstand the impact of bullets.
Police Launch Investigation
Abbotsford police are investigating the shooting and are looking to see if it was a “targeted shooting. The attackers’ motive or involvement of a gang or any individual remains not confirmed yet.
Police are also trying to determine which vehicle the suspects were driving. Cameras surrounding the area would be a big help in identifying the perpetrators of this attack.
In recent years, several other Punjabi singers and artists have been subjected to similar security-related incidents in Canada.
At Punjabi singer AP Dhillon’s house in Canada, shots were fired in September 2024, and vehicles outside the residence were reportedly set on fire.
A shooting took place outside Punjabi singer and actor Gippy Grewal’s home in the White Rock area near Vancouver in November 2023. Singer Karan Aujla has also revealed being shot at and threatened for ransom in Canada.
Canadian criminal gangs have been accused of targeting and extorting people who are linked to the Punjabi entertainment industry. In Ammy Virk’s case, however, police officially have nothing to confirm whether there was a gang or what the motive was behind the shooting.
