A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking legal action over social media posts published from the X account of Imran Khan, who is currently in jail.
The petition says that the court should declare posts published from IImranan Khan’s X account as illegal and unconstitutional, arguing that this conduct directly breaches Pakistani law.
The petition also calls for the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to investigate who is operating the account and to take steps to stop the publication of further posts.
The petition has been filed by Ghulam Murtaza Khan before the Honourable Mr Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir through the petitioner’s Barrister Zafarullah Khan, Swim Raja, and Barrister Qassim Duggal.
Among the requests made to the court is an order directing the PTA to block or remove posts published from Imran Khan’s account.
The petition also asks the superintendent of the jail where Imran Khan is being held to ensure that prison rules are enforced, including restrictions on prisoners operating social media accounts.
It further seeks an order preventing Imran Khan from continuing what the petition describes as an “illegal and unconstitutional activity”, and asks Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters and officials not to repost or circulate his messages.
The court has also been asked to issue any other orders it considers appropriate.
Imran Khan’s legal team has rejected the move, describing the petition as part of what it calls political victimisation.
Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, identified as legal counsel for Imran Khan, in his post on X, said that this petition is not merely a legal proceeding but part of political revenge.
He said that his client had already been deprived of basic rights, including access to medical treatment and meetings with family members and lawyers.
Khalid argued that such restrictions could violate constitutional protections, including Article 9, concerning security of person; Article 10-A, which guarantees the right to a fair trial; and Article 14, concerning the dignity of individuals.
Khalid Chaudhry also criticised the authorities’ handling of court orders concerning meetings with Imran Khan, arguing that judicial directives had not been properly implemented.
He called for what he described as equal treatment under the law and urged the courts to examine allegations of human rights violations involving Imran Khan and his family.
The allegations made by both sides are subject to legal proceedings, and it remains for the court to determine whether the requested orders should be issued.
The filing comes amid continuing political and legal disputes surrounding Imran Khan, who remains in prison while facing multiple cases.
