The federal government has changed the support package for the families of deceased government employees, according to reports on Friday.
What is the new package?
The Establishment Division has issued an office memorandum about the revised package. The new package will take effect from August 28, 2026.
The package has two parts. One covers normal deaths and the other covers deaths linked to security incidents.
What are the benefits for security-related deaths?
For security-related deaths, families will receive a lump-sum grant of Rs10 million to Rs20 million based on the employee’s grade.
The family of a deceased employee will receive the full salary and allowances until the employee reaches retirement age.
The children of deceased employees will also receive free education until graduation and post-graduation.
The widow or one of the children will be given a permanent job in BS-1 to BS-15.
For house purchase or construction, families of employees who die in security-related incidents will receive Rs13.5 million to Rs50 million based on the employee’s grade.
What are the benefits for normal deaths?
For normal deaths, the lump-sum grant will range from Rs600,000 to Rs3 million based on the employee’s grade.
The legal heirs will receive 100 per cent of the pension.
If an employee had served for less than 10 years, the family will receive pension based on a minimum of 10 years of service.
In cases of normal death, the family will continue to receive government housing or rented house support until the employee’s retirement age or for at least five years.
What are the new instructions for ministries?
The office memorandum directed all ministries and departments to keep the details of employees’ legal heirs and GP Fund nominations updated in advance.
Each ministry will also appoint an officer as a focal person. The officer will make sure that all benefits are provided to the legal heirs within one month.
The new package will apply to all permanent federal government employees. The new notification will also replace previous packages for deceased employees.
