India opener Abhishek Sharma has set a new record for the fastest T20I century by a Full Member batter, reaching his hundred off just 30 balls against Afghanistan in the third T20I in Delhi. Sharma surpassed the previous record, jointly held by Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza and New Zealand’s Finn Allen.
India opener Abhishek Sharma delivered a sensational performance against Afghanistan in the third T20I in Delhi, smashing a record-breaking century off just 30 balls. His explosive knock surpassed Rohit Sharma’s previous Indian record of a 35-ball T20I century, achieved against Sri Lanka in 2017.
However, Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan remains the record holder for the fastest century in all T20 cricket, having reached the milestone in 27 balls against Cyprus in 2024. The century marked Abhishek’s third in T20I cricket, placing him behind only Rohit Sharma, with five centuries, and Suryakumar Yadav, with four, among Indian batters.
Abhishek raced to his half-century in just 16 deliveries before accelerating further. He needed only 14 more balls to complete his century, maintaining relentless pressure on the Afghan bowlers.
The left-handed opener eventually departed in the 10th over after scoring a breathtaking 108 off 34 balls. His innings featured nine fours and 11 sixes, with a boundary coming approximately every 3.09 deliveries.
At the time of his dismissal, India had reached 142 for 1, with Abhishek contributing more than 76% of the team’s total. His opening partner, Sanju Samson, supported the innings with 34 off 25 balls. Abhishek’s remarkable form comes shortly after he rose to second place in the ICC T20I batting rankings, with teammate Ishan Kishan occupying the top position. His latest performance further underlined his growing impact in international T20 cricket.
