Pakistan’s textile exports rose 5.55 percent in the first two months of the 2026-27 financial year, supported by higher sales of garments, knitwear, cotton yarn and towels.
According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday, textile exports reached $3.379 billion in July and August, up from $3.202 billion in the same period of 2025-26.
Ready-made garments were among the main contributors to the increase. Their exports rose 13.59 percent to $827 million from $728.09 million a year earlier.
Cotton yarn exports recorded the sharpest growth among major textile products, rising 34.80 percent to $160.68 million from $119.20 million. Knitwear exports also increased 4.79 percent to $1 billion from $958.63 million.
Exports of towels grew 6.74 percent to $191.14 million, while made-up articles, excluding towels and bed wear, increased 6.95 percent to $146.03 million. Other textile materials also posted a 3.91 percent increase to $133.15 million.
However, several textile categories recorded lower exports during the period. Cotton cloth exports fell 7.66 percent to $276.26 million from $299.18 million. Bed wear exports edged down 0.31 percent to $563.55 million.
Exports of yarn other than cotton yarn dropped 31.78 percent to $4.05 million, while tents, canvas and tarpaulin declined 7.17 percent to $14.88 million. Art, silk and synthetic textiles also fell 11.33 percent to $58.64 million.
The sector also saw a year-on-year increase in August, with textile exports rising 2.77 percent to $1.565 billion from $1.523 billion in August 2025.
On a monthly basis, however, textile exports dropped 13.68 percent from $1.814 billion in July to $1.565 billion in August.
Pakistan’s overall exports stood at $5.494 billion in July and August, up 7.73 percent from $5.1 billion a year earlier.
Imports, meanwhile, rose at a much faster pace. They reached $12.745 billion during the first two months of FY27, up 14.56 percent from $11.125 billion in the same period last year.
In August alone, imports fell 15.22 percent from July to $5.848 billion, but remained 10.59 percent higher than the $5.288 billion recorded in August 2025.
Overall exports in August stood at $2.542 billion, down 13.86 percent from July but 5.22 percent higher than the same month last year.
