The federal capital’s administration has decided to close 24 educational institutions in Islamabad following protest calls by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and the Kisan Ittehad.
According to the private media outlet, the 24 educational institutions were closed from Monday as a precautionary measure amid concerns over possible protests in the capital. Other educational institutions across Islamabad will remain open.
The schools closed under the decision are located in several areas, including G-6, F-6, F-7 and G-7. Selected educational institutions in Tarnol, Sangjani, Sihala, Nara and the Rawal Dam area have also been closed.
The premises of the closed educational institutions will reportedly be used to accommodate police personnel deployed for security duties during the protests.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad administration has stepped up preparations to deal with a possible PTI protest march and sit-ins in the federal capital.
The Red Zone has been completely sealed, while authorities have decided to dig trenches along key roads to prevent protesters arriving from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from entering the city.
Authorities are also preparing to install barriers at various locations. According to reports, empty shipping containers are being filled with bags of soil to create temporary barricades, with workers speeding up the process ahead of the anticipated protests.
