The Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (Pakistan) has issued important safety guidelines for Pakistani workers living and working in Gulf countries amid extreme summer heat.
According to the bureau, temperatures in Gulf countries often rise above 48°C during the summer, creating serious health risks for workers engaged in outdoor and physically demanding jobs.
The bureau warned that prolonged exposure to intense heat and direct sunlight can put additional strain on the heart and increase the risk of heatstroke and severe kidney damage.
Workers have been advised to drink plenty of cool water and fluids regularly rather than waiting until they feel thirsty.
They have also been urged to strictly follow restrictions imposed by Gulf governments on outdoor work during peak afternoon hours and spend the period in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
The guidelines recommend scheduling heavy physical work during the cooler early morning or evening hours whenever possible.
Workers have also been advised to keep an eye on their colleagues for signs of heat-related illness. If anyone experiences dizziness, nausea, blurred vision or other symptoms, they should immediately be moved to a shaded or cool place, given water and provided with medical assistance.
