Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the London Stock Exchange (LSE) and participated in a Market Open ceremony during his visit to the United Kingdom.
According to the private media outlet, Shehbaz Sharif was received by London Stock Exchange Group CEO David Schwimmer and senior officials upon his arrival at the exchange.
Addressing the ceremony, the prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen the economy and said the country’s macroeconomic indicators were showing continued improvement.
Shehbaz Sharif said the issuance of $3 billion in Eurobonds was a clear example of strengthening confidence in Pakistan’s economy. He described the re-entry into the international bond market as an important step towards putting the economy on the right track.
During his UK visit, the prime minister also held separate meetings in London with senior executives from major global financial institutions, including Barclays, JPMorgan, Citi, BlackRock and Rothschild & Co.
The meetings focused on Pakistan’s economic reform agenda, macroeconomic stability, creating a favourable environment for investment and expanding cooperation with the international financial sector.
During a meeting with Muhammad Kamal Syed, Head of Private Bank and Wealth Management UK at Barclays, Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the bank’s interest in Pakistan and discussed opportunities for greater financial and investment cooperation.
The Market Open ceremony is a regular event at the London Stock Exchange that brings together business leaders, investors and other stakeholders.
