Punjab extends vehicle fitness certificate deadline

The Punjab government has extended the deadline for private vehicle owners to comply with vehicle fitness certificate regulations until November 15.

According to the available information, the previous deadline was October 15. The extension gives vehicle owners additional time to meet the requirements under the revised rules.

Under the new arrangements, vehicles with engine capacities of up to 1,000cc will be exempt from fitness certificate requirements for the first five years after manufacture. Vehicles with engine capacities ranging from 1,001cc to 2,000cc will receive an exemption for the first six years, while vehicles above 2,000cc will be exempt for the first seven years.

The changes have been attributed to a notification issued under the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965. The applicable requirements will depend on a vehicle’s engine capacity and year of manufacture.

Owners of vehicles that do not qualify for the exemption have been advised to complete the relevant formalities by November 15. Vehicles that fail to comply with the applicable rules after the deadline could face enforcement action.

Vehicle owners are advised to check their vehicle documents and confirm the applicable fitness requirements with the relevant authorities to avoid last-minute delays or potential penalties
