What is Animals about?
Animals follows Mark during his campaign for mayor of Los Angeles. His political plans change after his son is reportedly kidnapped. The family faces a large ransom demand. Animals Ending Explained
Spoiler warning: This section reveals major details from the ending. The kidnapping becomes more complicated as Mark tries to recover his son. The situation forces him to make increasingly difficult choices. A major twist changes the understanding of the kidnapping. The child at the center of the crisis is not simply part of the story viewers first expect. The film eventually shifts attention toward Mark’s decisions and his political ambitions. His response shows how far he will go to protect his future.
The ransom exchange leads to a violent confrontation. The crisis does not end with a simple rescue. The ending also connects the kidnapping to a wider political cover-up. Mark’s actions help protect his public image while leaving serious moral questions behind. The conclusion focuses less on a traditional heroic victory. Instead, it highlights Mark’s willingness to protect himself and his ambitions. This makes the ending deliberately cynical. The kidnapping exposes the gap between Mark’s public image and his private decisions.
Why Animals is attracting attention
The film has attracted attention because Affleck handles several major roles. He serves as director, co-writer, and lead actor. Its Netflix release also places the movie before a large global streaming audience. Netflix classifies it as a dark, slow-burn thriller. The film combines a kidnapping mystery with political pressure. That combination gives the story a wider focus beyond the central crime. Reviews have offered different views of the movie. Some praised its tense setup and performances, while others criticized its pacing and emotional depth.
For viewers interested in crime thrillers, Animals now provides a new Netflix option. The film also gives Affleck another opportunity to combine acting and directing.
