Electricity prices across Pakistan, including for K-Electric consumers, are likely to increase by Rs2.56 per unit under the monthly fuel price adjustment for September.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), seeking an adjustment in electricity tariffs based on fuel costs incurred during September.
According to the petition, NEPRA will hold a hearing on October 29 to review the proposed increase. If approved, the adjustment will apply to consumers nationwide, including those served by K-Electric, for a one-month period.
The petition also highlighted variations in electricity generation costs from different fuel sources during September. Electricity generated using high-speed diesel was the most expensive, costing Rs62 per unit, followed by furnace oil at Rs44 per unit and liquefied natural gas (LNG) at Rs39 per unit. Meanwhile, electricity generation costs stood at Rs3 per unit for nuclear power and Rs6 per unit for hydropower. The proposed increase will take effect subject to NEPRA’s decision following the hearing.
