The Ligue 1 clash between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Olympique Lyonnais has been postponed due to unrest in the French capital, according to international media reports. The match was originally scheduled for Sunday, October 25, at 8:45 p.m. local time at Parc des Princes in Paris. However, authorities ordered the fixture to be postponed amid ongoing anti-government protests and security concerns.

Lyon confirmed the postponement in a statement on social media, saying the Ligue 1 McDonald’s Round 8 fixture would now be played on Monday, October 26, at 8:30 pm local time. The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), in consultation with Ligue 1, rescheduled the match following an order from the Paris police.

The fixture between the two French football giants will now take place a day later than originally planned. On the other hand, a shooting in Trappes, a suburb of Paris, has left one person dead and five others injured, including a 12-year-old girl.

French President Emmanuel Macron described the incident as a “terrorist and racist” attack, according to media reports. News agencies reported that the assailant used an automatic weapon to target a petrol station, a medical centre and a children’s playground. Authorities have arrested a 39-year-old man identified as Kevin T. in connection with the shooting.

French law enforcement agencies generally withhold suspects’ full surnames during criminal investigations. The incident comes amid heightened political and social tensions in France.
