The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department has ordered the immediate relocation of students from dilapidated and unsafe school buildings following last month’s tragic incident in Peshawar’s Dir Colony.

According to ARY News, the Elementary and Secondary Education Department has directed all District Education Officers (DEOs) to immediately shift students studying in dangerous school buildings or unsafe sections to secure locations.

In a letter issued to all DEOs, the department instructed authorities to relocate students to safe sections of the same schools or nearby government schools.

The letter further stated that if suitable facilities are unavailable in government schools, rented buildings should be arranged to ensure that students’ education continues without interruption.

The department clarified that only those sections and rooms officially declared unsafe would be vacated and sealed, adding that there was no need to evacuate entire school buildings.

According to the department, the identification of dangerous school buildings and unsafe sections was carried out by the Communication and Works Department and technical experts.

Last month, 33 children and a female teacher were killed when a school roof collapsed in Peshawar’s Dir Colony, triggering concerns over the safety of school infrastructure across the province.
