In a major anti-encroachment crackdown, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday demolished illegal structures and encroachments at the Sunday Bazaar site in Sectors G-10 and G-11.
According to CDA officials, the operation was launched after repeated complaints that stall-holders and illegal vendors had expanded beyond the designated bazaar area, occupying footpaths, green belts, and government land reserved for parking and public movement.
The Enforcement Directorate, assisted by Islamabad Administration and police, cleared over a dozen illegal structures that were blocking movement in front of residential houses and commercial areas.
A CDA spokesman said the anti-encroachment drive will continue without discrimination
.
Officials said the Sunday Bazaar will be allowed to operate only within its officially demarcated limits and any vendor found re-encroaching will face heavy fines and cancellation of stalls.
The operation is part of CDA’s city-wide campaign against illegal constructions in markets including G-7, G-6, G-11, G-10, Sabzi Mandi and Bhara Kahu.
Earlier the weekly bazaars in Islamabad’s H-9 and G-6 sectors were also closed from October 16 due to non implementation of fire safety measures
The Directorate of Municipal Administration has issued a formal notification regarding the closure with the approval of the Chief Officer of the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI).
According to the notification, the administration has made it mandatory for both bazaars to obtain fire safety clearance from Capital Emergency Services and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) before reopening.
The authorities have directed the concerned departments to ensure that all necessary fire safety arrangements are completed at the two markets. The notification further states that neither market will be allowed to resume operations until the required safety measures are in place and clearance has been granted by the relevant authorities.
