US Embassy cable on Maulana Fazlur Rehman goes viral again

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has issued notices to the management of religious seminary buildings linked to JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad over violations of building regulations, warning of legal action if the identified issues are not addressed within the stipulated period.

According to the information provided, the civic authority has initiated action over unauthorised construction and non-compliance with approved building plans at religious educational institutions associated with Fazlur Rehman.

Among the institutions facing regulatory action is Madrassa Akhtar-ul-Uloom in Islamabad, whose administration has received a CDA notice concerning construction carried out without an approved building plan.

The CDA has directed the seminary’s management to submit the approved building plan within 15 days to demonstrate compliance with the capital’s construction regulations.

The authority has also warned that failure to comply with the notice could result in further legal proceedings, including the sealing of buildings found in violation of applicable construction laws.

The action forms part of the CDA’s enforcement of building regulations in Islamabad, under which property owners and institutional administrations are required to obtain the necessary approvals before undertaking construction.

The notices require the concerned administrations to address the identified violations within the prescribed timeframe.

The CDA’s warning makes clear that failure to meet the regulatory requirements could expose the institutions to additional enforcement measures.
