US Democratic Senator Christopher Van Hollen, who was born in Karachi, is reportedly considering a bid for the 2028 US presidential election.
Speaking to a news outlet, Van Hollen said: “I am not looking to be the next Democratic leader. I have been kicking the tyres on a 2028 presidential election.”
Van Hollen was born in Karachi to an American Foreign Service officer. He later moved to the United States, where he studied philosophy at Swarthmore College before earning a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University. He also obtained a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University and was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1990.
He has served as a US senator since January 2017. Before that, he was a member of the US House of Representatives from 2003 to 2017.
Speculation over the 2028 presidential race has grown following major Republican losses in the midterm elections, putting Democrats in the spotlight.
The next US presidential election is scheduled for November 7, 2028.
Under the US Constitution, President Donald Trump cannot seek another term as president, having already been elected twice. However, current Vice President JD Vance could emerge as a potential Republican candidate in the 2028 race.
