Motorways closed

The Motorway Police have warned that heavy fog in different parts of the country has made travel on motorways extremely dangerous.

The M3 motorway from Darkhana to Rajana, the M4 from Gujrat to Multan, and the M5 from Multan to Zahid Pir have been completely closed to all types of traffic.

Motorway Police urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel as the severe reduction in visibility has significantly increased the risk of accidents.

Said Imran Ahmed, spokesperson for the Motorway Police, said that lane violations or speeding during fog can lead to serious accidents.

He advised drivers to strictly follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking under any circumstances.

He added that maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and reducing speed can greatly reduce the likelihood of accidents.

The spokesperson also noted that the period from 10 am to 6 pm is considered relatively safer for travel during fog. He advised people to plan their journeys within these hours if possible.

Drivers were also instructed to use fog lights effectively to improve visibility and prevent accidents.

Headlights and fog lights must be in proper working condition to guide drivers through foggy conditions.

The Motorway Police requested that drivers always reduce speed, maintain safe distances, and contact the help line 130 in case of emergencies.

The spokesperson assured the public that safety is the top priority of the Motorway Police.

Motorways will be reopened in phases as soon as the weather conditions improve.

This alert is especially important for students and parents travelling to and from Murree and Kotli Sattian during the long winter holidays.

Motorway Police urged citizens to follow safety measures and avoid unnecessary travel to prevent loss of life and property.
