Bangladesh exposes Sheikh Hasina’s ‘plot’ against political leaders

Web desk: Bangladeshi authorities have claimed to have uncovered an alleged plot involving former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina aimed at targeting political figures, according to media reports.

The revelations surfaced following a violent shooting incident in Dhaka that left a political activist critically injured. It prompted the government to take diplomatic action against India.

The injured individual, Osman Hadi, a member of the ruling Awami League, was shot in the capital and remains in serious condition.

Officials allege that Hadi had also received threatening phone calls, which investigators say were traced back to India.

Bangladesh summons India’s envoy

In response, the Bangladeshi government summoned the Indian ambassador. It formally requested the extradition of individuals suspected of involvement in the attack.

Authorities in Dhaka have accused Sheikh Hasina of directing terror-style operations to destabilise the country ahead of the upcoming elections.

They further say that India is providing space for the former PM to interfere in Bangladesh’s internal political process. She had fled there after stepping down.

Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry officials said the Indian high commissioner was informed of Dhaka’s serious concern over ‘anti-Bangladesh activities.’ That are carried out by Hasina and her supporters from Indian territory.

At a briefing in Dhaka on Sunday, members of Hadi’s medical team said their personal details had been leaked online. And that they were receiving threats from phone numbers traced to India.

“As a neighbour, India is expected to stand with the people of Bangladesh in upholding justice and safeguarding democratic processes,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Sheikh Hasina

Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced to death in absentia in a separate case linked to crimes against humanity.

Bangladeshi officials say her ongoing activities from abroad threaten political stability. It has raised concerns about the safety of political leaders and the fairness of upcoming elections.
