Dense Fog closes major Motorways in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) has closed major motorways in Pakistan due to intensifying dense fog.

Therefore, the movement of traffic is again halted on most major roads to ensure the safety of the people.

M-1 motorway was closed down between Peshawar Toll Plaza and Swabi Interchange by the police.

Meanwhile, the M-2 motorway is now closed between Lahore and Hiran Minar.

The visibility has reduced to zero in most regions as a result of the continuous winter haze. Thus, authorities blocked the M-3 Lahore-Abdul Hakim motorway to all categories of vehicles.

Moreover, the M-4 Pindi Bhattian-Multan motorway is at this time closed to commuters.

The M-5 motorway that links Multan to Sukkur is completely shut down until the weather improves.

The period is characterized by active patrolling to guide stranded drivers by the motorway police.

In addition, they recommend that citizens should not engage in unnecessary early morning travel.

The drivers are also advised to use fog lights and drive slowly in case they are forced to do so.

Switching to less perilous circumstances, law enforcers will open the roads as soon as the sun has cleared the thick cloud of mist.

The motorists can call the helpline 130 to confirm the situation before travelling.
