Heavy rain causes flooding in Ziyaratali, Iran

ZIYARATALI: Heavy rains caused the Rudan River to overflow in southern Iran. The floodwater surrounded the town of Ziyaratali in the Hormozgan province.

According to the local weather reports, there were heavy downpours that struck the region on Monday.

Thus, the homes, shops, and other important infrastructure were flooded because of the swelling river levels.

Rescue services came fast in order to help those in the floodwaters. Moreover, the catastrophe has cleared major highways, isolating some rural regions from the town centre.

The police have recorded huge destruction of the farmland and animals in the province.

The current weather patterns indicate a threatening change in rainfall levels in the areas.

Indeed, Hormozgan has witnessed a number of flash floods after years of intense droughts. Such bursts of storms flood dry riverbeds and drainage systems that are in place.

Fortunately, rescuers have had to evacuate families in areas that are considered risky.

In the meantime, more rain is expected during the entire week, according to the meteorological department.

People should be cautious and attentive to the authorities. The government is in the process of evaluating the overall economic damages because of this natural disaster.
