Sikh woman takes historic step for mosque in India

Sikh woman donated her land

Web Desk: A 75-year-old Sikh woman donated her land for the construction of a mosque in a village in Fatehgarh Sahib district of the Indian state of Punjab, while Sikh and Hindu families provided financial support.

According to media reports, this act of generosity took place in Jakhwali village, which is mainly composed of Sikhs, but Hindu and Muslim families have been residing alongside for centuries.

There was a Gurdwara and a temple in the village, but due to the lack of a mosque, Muslim residents had to go to a nearby village for prayers.

The woman who donated the land, Bibi Rajendra Kaur, said that she decided to donate 5 marlas of land for the mosque, seeing the difficulties of her Muslim neighbours.

According to her grandson Satnam Singh, Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims have been living together in the village for years and cooperate with each other on every religious occasion.

According to media reports, the land was in the name of Bibi Rajendra Kaur, which was legally transferred to the name of the Muslim village committee. The village leader and a family member of Bibi Rajendra Kaur, Monu Singh, said that government land could not be given for religious construction, so personal land was donated.

Mosque Committee President Kala Khan expressed gratitude for the initiative, he said that relations between different communities are exemplary and that the construction of the mosque will be completed by February. He added that people belonging to all religions have donated for the construction of the mosque, and so far, 3.5 lakh Indian rupees have been collected.
