Former Bangladesh PM Khaleda Zia dies at the age of 80

WEB DESK: The chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and a three-time Prime Minister, Khaleda Zia, passed away at the age of 80.

The party officials have confirmed her death, saying that she died on Tuesday morning while battling pneumonia, lung and heart infections, and liver cirrhosis.

She was in the hospital for quite some time, but could not recover from her illness.

Zia’s political career began after the assassination of her husband, President Zia-ur-Rahman, in 1981. After her husband’s death, she leads the BNP.

She became the first female PM of Bangladesh in 1991. She was selected as the PM once again between 2001 to 2006.

Her death occurred just after the return of her son, Tariq Rehman, who came to the country after 17 years.

Moreover, her doctors said that they installed the latest ventilators in order to sustain the life of the late PM. But her multiple health complications proved too severe. This led to her death.
